SELMA Dome

Vehicle mounted remote laser methane detector for monitoring methane in ambient air

Fast and efficient natural gas leak detection in urban and suburban environment

SELMA Dome is designed for easy and accurate detection of methane in ambient air. Just mount it on your vehicle’s roof and follow your route — the system identifies gas leaks at distances of up to 80 meters. Eye-safe laser enables inspections without harming humans and animals. For enhanced sensitivity, SELMA Dome can be paired with SELMA MPB laser sniffer.

SELMA Dome key features and advantages

  • Detection range up to 80 m

  • Max vehicle speed 50 km/h

  • Precisely calibrated to detect methane with a sensitivity of 5 ppm×m

  • Detects methane leaks even through window glass

  • Installation on any type of chassis

  • Can be paired with SELMA MPB laser sniffer

  • Horizontal detection angle 360°

  • Simple inspection process involving only driver or operator

  • Human-safe laser light

  • Built-in GPS receiver for accurate leak location

How SELMA Dome works

SELMA Dome utilizes TDLAS technology

TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) is a technology that enables precise gas detection using a tunable diode laser. The laser emits a narrow beam of light at a wavelength that matches the absorption profile of the target gas. As the beam passes through the gas, some of the light is absorbed by its molecules. A sensor then captures the reflected light, and by analyzing how much was absorbed, the system determines the gas concentration.

Why leak detection matters

Continuous methane monitoring, especially in urban areas, is essential not only for safety but also for environmental protection. Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases, trapping heat much more efficiently than carbon dioxide. Even small leaks, if undetected, can increase and have a serious impact on the climate. This is why regular monitoring is important: it helps to detect leaks as soon as they occur, prevent dangerous situations and control emissions in accordance with environmental regulations.
