SELMA Smart

Pump-suction laser methane detector with wavelength locking technology

Versatile, Easy-to-Use, Low-Maintenance Design

The SELMA Smart is a pump-suction laser methane detector engineered for reliable leak detection in gas distribution networks and field operations. Based on wavelength-locked TDLAS technology, it provides stable, methane-specific measurements without the need for regular calibration. This reduces maintenance workload and keeps the instrument in continuous field service instead of frequent workshop visits. The device can be installed on trolleys, electric carts, or vehicles to support mobile surveys across large areas. The result is higher efficiency, longer operational life, and a more streamlined leak detection workflow for utility teams.

SELMA Smart key features and advantages

  • Advanced wavelength locking technology for calibration-free operation

  • Up to 10 hours of operation on a single battery charge

  • Explosion-proof housing Ex ib IIC T3 Gb

  • Small size and weight

  • Moisture and dust resistance (IP66)

  • Fast response time 0.1 s

As the beam passes through the gas, some of the light is absorbed by its molecules. A sensor then captures the reflected light, and by analyzing how much was absorbed, the system determines the gas concentration.
The SELMA Smart combines advanced TDLAS laser technology with an active pump system to deliver fast and reliable methane detection. It draws in air samples and passes a laser beam through the gas. Thanks to wavelength locking, the laser remains precisely tuned to methane’s absorption profile. As methane molecules absorb part of the laser light, a sensor measures the change and calculates the concentration of methane in the air sample.

SELMA Dome G5 utilizes TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) technology that enables precise gas detection using a tunable diode laser. The laser emits a narrow beam of light at a wavelength that matches the absorption profile of the target gas.

Why leak detection matters

Methane monitoring, especially in urban areas, is essential not just for safety, but also for protecting the environment. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, trapping heat much more effectively than carbon dioxide. Even small leaks, if left undetected, can grow and seriously impact the climate. Regular monitoring helps detect leaks early, prevent dangerous situations, and control emissions in accordance with environmental regulations.
